Question by Veggiegirl: What are the best pull up diapers all around?
I’m potty training my son and I have tried Huggies pull ups and Little Tykes and they are horrible. Please give me some good advice. The other two are not absorbant at all.

Answer by BeachCrazed
Just a bit of advice–Pull ups are a waste of time and money. That’s like saying “Here, here’s a bigger and fatter diaper you can pee in.” To be quite honest, they just slow the process down and confuse the child.

Pamper’s Pull Ups are the only ones that ever worked for us

try cloth diapers. Sure they are more work but they also show you care about your kids by putting in extra time to care for them.

I would use the pampers ones that your toddler will be able to feel when sh/e is wet………or regular cloth training pants with rubber pant over them………..it is very important for them to feel the wetness so they can see how uncomfertable it is.

We started using Pull-ups on my son when he was about 14 months old (he got too tall for diapers) I must have tried about $150 worth of different brands of training pants. I love Huggies Pull-ups. You have to be careful to get the correct size for your child. Pull-ups aren’t meant to be as absorbant as diapers and you’re not really going to find any brand that are. I think Pull-ups are a great thing for potty-training. My son uses them and he can pull them up and down like underwear and the CARS designs make it even more fun for him :)

If you’re going to use pull ups, just use the generic ones from the dollar store. They are not as absorbant- which is the point. Pull ups should not be absorbant… they should let the child know that pee is uncomfortable… let’s get it off! (without the mess of underwear). Also, there are those ones by pampers maybe… the cool alert ones that make kids uncomfortable. However, think about if you got a new dog. How do you teach your dog to be potty trained? You take them out straight after they make a mess and have to clean it up for a few days– but otherwise they learn quickly and cleaning their mess has a quick payoff. Think about doing the same with your son. Let him run naked for a few days… when you see him about to make an accident or DIRECTLY afterwards, take him to the potty and use the same words, such as, “Pee pee in the potty”. NEVER use discouraging words or get agitated in front of him. This works better than pull ups bc it allows him to connect his actions, unlike pull ups when there is not always an immediate reaction from you to take him to the bathroom. Put your potty chair in the living room too (or whereever you mostly are with him). Good luck!

I agree with the other. Pull up are a bad idea with potty training. I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. They would do great with under ware but when I use the pull ups they went in them.

  12. Colleen O Says:

There ARE no good pullups. They are misleading to the child. They “look” like real underwear but they feel nothing like them nor do they feel like diapers. When the child starts wearing underwear the sensation of urine is different than in the pullups so the chlid doesn’t know (understand) that he/she has wet his/her pants. If the child is not fully potty trained I suggest keeping the child in diapers until they are. I also don’t advocate potty training until the child is ready to do so. I’ve raised my own on this theroy and worked as supervisor in a a day care facility that used the same theory, no child that left our daycare ever started kindergarten in diapers.
