Question by trek: What are the steps to crate potty training a chihuahua?
Mostly i want to know if she doesn’t go both poop and pee when i take her out should she go back in her crate?

Step 1. Feed your dog on a schedule. If you don’t know when it goes in, you don’t know when it’s time to come out.
Step 2. Give your dog 20 minutes to eat whatever she wants, then the food comes up. 20 minutes later, she goes outside. If she doesn’t potty, she goes back into her crate for 5 minutes, then back outside to try again. She doesn’t get to resume playing until she has pottied outside.
Repeat this until she gets the hang of going outside means potty immediately.
Remember: Dogs don’t know the difference between right and wrong, they only know safe vs. dangerous. Do not punish her for going in the house, but instead, make it scary and dangerous to go inside by catching her in the act and banging pots and pans. going outside feels better and is safe!

no. take her outside a lot. when she goes outside, praise her, maybe throw in a treat for her good behavior so that she will learn that going to the bathroom outside is bad. when she goes in the house, if you catch her in action, take her outside immediately. or, if it is shortly after, put her nose near it, and tell her no, and put her in her crate for a few minutes so that she will learn that it is bad going inside. crate her at night while you cant watch her.

Well, the chihuahua would just crap on the floor but in the crate, there isn’t enough ROOM to crap. You just bring her out to eat and crap in the yard. Then right back in the crate. If you wanna snuggle her and she craps, then in the crate she goes. And don’t worry! I know! it’s REALLY hard to resist the face of a chihuahua but ya gotsta do what ya gotsta!
p.s. EVERYTHING needs to be a schedule
