Question by Lisa: Potty Training!??? WTF?
Crass…I may be. But so is potty training. My daughter will be 2 in 5 days and I have always told myself I would start training then. Procrastinator that I am, I have put it off. Now, I have NO idea where to begin. NONE. I am so busy at work, I dont even urinate when I should. My poor bladder. Can anyone give me some advice? I thought of the book Potty training for Dummies, but it has such poor reviews. HELPPPPP!! (accentuate the P)!

put your daughter in the bathroom and tell her to do it herself. She will naturally discover how to potty train. It really works!!

Tell her, “Big girls don’t wear diapers”.
2 year olds want nothing other than to be a “big girl”.
Big girls don’t cry like you.
Big girls use the potty.
Big girls eat their veggies (don’t try this with spinich – big girls don’t eat that).
Speak in a normal voice. She’ll buy it.

well age two is the perfect time to start the training because kids understand more….it might freak them out to sit down in the seat or even look at u like what do u want me to do but heres a tip when u want to go pee take her along tell her that is where mommy makes pee or u know poo try sitting the child gently but assuring her she isnt going to fall in… my daughter is like that…. another thing u can do is teach ur kid to tell u when they r peeing and rush them to the toilet that way they see that thats were they got to go…my kid dances around now and says mami pe pee or poo and i rush in take the pamper off even if shes almost doing it in it and sit her down.. good luck dont expect her to b quick just reasure her alot and ull both get through it ….

well put potty in the toilet or outside it when your daughter see you peeing tell her its time for her to pee when she sits on her potty reward her with little treats not expensive ones..ie freddo frog chocky…or candy if you dont like to give her sweets gets some stickers or stamps…teach her to show you when she has used it my daughter picked up the concept very quickly she might surprise you mum ..never yell at her if she is sitting too long on it or if she misses the potty as long as she is tryingh she will suceed its the boys i found harder

The only advise I have to you is this, It worked for my kids (both boys). I had them follow me into the bathroom every time I had to use it or my wife. I would also after they drank a reasonable amount of liquids have them go sit down on the toilet, for a few minutes. If they went I would point into the toilet and explain to them what happen and congratulate them on a good job. But since you have daughters you may ask your husband to sit while he pees ( to help ), but only if you are both comfortable about it. Try to look for signs if they are even starting to pee or going pee, its never to late to rush them to a toilet and have the sit their. At one point we had to move their little toilet into our living room (where we hung out the most to encourage it and also had them watch videos about it every day.

For my daugther I just woke up one day and told her that she was going to wear panties from now on. She was 1.5 and the time. When we got to daycare that morning I told her teacher that she was to use panties at all times. I brought tons of extra clothes. She did not have an accident all day. Once we were on the train on our way home that evening she peed on herself. I did not get mad or anything and it was in the middle of January when this happened. Freezing here in chicago. Once we got off the train we slowly walked the the eight blocks home in the cold. (cruel I know) she was pissed. I told her ’see, this is why we always have to go pee pee in the toliet, doesn’t it feel nasty?’ I swear to you, from that day foward she had maybe three or four accidents, primarily because a bathroom was out of reach–the best advice is to never get upset or angry if they have an accident. If you allow your daughter to watch tv the first thing in the morining I turned on Barney or something gave my daugther a cup of juice, put her on a mini toliet and let her do her deed—–make sure you jump up and down and clap your hands, and say ‘look at my big girl’ ‘I am so proud of you, etc, also if you have time on the weekends, I let my daughter walk around naked, so she could make it to the toliet quicker, this worked really good, she was completley potty trained in a week–good luck:-)

She is to young…start introducing her to it. Does she stay dry at night? If not then what is the point of putting underwear on during the day if she wll have to go in a diaper again at night. Kid do it when they are ready. All 5 of mine were 3 give or take a month..put underwear on one day and boom thats all she wrote. Seriously!! I would let them pee when they wanted to before that . Whenver they asked to go because it was fun. You dont need a book…think of 100 years ago..they didnt have books. Get her a potty chair and let her use it when she wants. Take her out shopping and let her pick out her own panties. Never Never punish remember she is learning something new and scarey. Treats for if she does go like lollipops, hershey kisses etc. I do think she is a bit young though. A newly potty trained kid is difficult to take places, diapers are just way easier LOL. I have boys so we could just stop on side of the road if need be but with girls you cant do that. Just be patient and dont try so hard.

my aunt potty trained her daughter in one weekend by putting a bowl of skittles by the toilet and every time she went potty in the toilet she got to eat a skittle and every time she had a accident she flushed a skittle… it worked in 2 days!!

At age 2 it’s okay to start potty training… I would take your daughter and let her pick out her very own potty… Let her sit on it… get used to it… Take her potty with you… She may or may not be ready. If she’s not ready I would just wait a few weeks and try again. That is what I had to do with my daughter. When she was 2 I started… she wasn’t interested. I waited and tried again… Also, don’t make her feel bad if she has an accident and don’t tell her she’s a baby if she won’t use the potty… You could also try taking her to the bathroom ever 15-30 minutes… Just some tips… Hope you find something that works for you guys.
