Question by daisy: How to potty train a toddler? Any tips on how to speed it up?
I have a 2 year old son and have been potty training him for a few months now, but it seems like such a long process. He only goes to the potty when I tell him to. I hope to have him potty trained by the time he is 3 years old. Any potty training tips?

they will do it when they are ready, believe me, i was trying to potty train my son since he was 2 and it took until he was 4 before he was fully potty trained, keep in mind that boys usually take longer, sorry but you cant speed it up

It will only happen when he’s ready, all you can do is provide him with a potty, sit him on it for 20 minutes or so with some toys, play with him while he’s sat there & if he happens to pee praise him like crazy……
Potty training makes me not wanna have anymore kids……as do the mothers at the school gate

Don’t rush him. That could make it harder. Just take him to the potty every half hour to an hour and make it fun. If he does anything in the potty then get reallly excited and clap and treat it like a party. It will make him want to “go” again.

It took me a year from the time my daughter was 2 until she was 3 to completely potty train her. Keep doing what your doing, ask him if he needs to go like every hour or so. What worked for me was I took my daughter to the store let her pick out some panties. I took the pull ups completely away. She had a few accidents but after a few times she told me when she needed to go to the potty. Just have patience and it will happen.

Tee-tee in the potty=1 jellybean
Poo-poo in the potty=2 jellybeans
If your kiddo does not like jellybeans try something else. My oldest daughter liked jellybeans and my middle daughter likes Hot Tamales. Improvise!!!

we bought our son a singing potty a walmart that helped alot. i dont think i can be much help we lucked out it only took our son about a week and he was trained. he was only 27 months. we did do a reward chart though for every five poops he got to pick a treat like a movie at the video store or a new matchbox car.(there only $1 at the store)

have him go potty outside, it really speeded things up with my son, and my doctor recommended to do that, hes 4 now and goes to the bathroom all the time, and never has a accident

give him praise, maybe a reward every once in a while if he doesn’t have accidents or have to be told to

There is no tips to speed up the training as it may cause unneccessary frustration from what we expect is not met.
At this stage, some children still need your instructions before they do something.
Just be patient, even it may takes 3 months or half year to complete potty train.

Obviously he isn’t ready to be potty trained. What you want and what he is able to do are two different things. I suggest waiting until he shows an interest in going potty rather than trying to force him into it.
