Question by ilvmystical: My toddler only wants to sit on the potty after she has already peed or pooed, What do I do now?
My daughter is 2 yrs. old. She has shown interest in the potty but has yet to “go” in it. I started potty training 3 weeks ago. I am currently using pull ups but recently bought thick cotton training pants. I have yet to use them since she won’t go to the potty until after she has already gone in her pull up. She will immediately ask to go potty right after she goes. Where do I go from here. I would appreciate any advice given. Thanks.

she is doing good for her age but seems a lil confused. just help her to understand that you go potty b4 you go potty.

After meals, put her on the potty and keep her there until she goes. She will get it soon enough.

Let her do it in her own time. Dont rush it but encourge her and keep telling her she’s good for trying. My son is 2 now. Just turned 2 on Dec. 9th. He’s already potty trained. I’m a stay at home mom so I was able to be home with him all day. I don’t know your situation but I let him run around naked a lot and if you know the potty cues (squirming, holding themselves, or whatever your kid does.) you can catch them in time and put them on the potty. Be prepared for accidents and just be persistent and encouraging.

Don’t worry it just takes time. We started potty training my daughter at 2 years old and she would do the exact same thing. The fact that she tries to still go even if it’s to late is a good sign. We just would tell her next time try to go before she goes in her pull ups or panties, and with time and a lot of patience it eventually worked. Good Luck!

not to sure what your routine is – but you can have her sit on the potty every couple of hours and hoped that she goes. This should help her get the idea. she is getting the idea if she goes to the potty after she is done, it is just getting her to realize to go to the potty in time.

We put our kids on the potty every hour on the hour.
Either you get nothing or something.
And if they are reluctant to go you could try being firm with her or buying her her favorite candy.
Everytime one of our kids goes on the potty and something comes out we give them those gummi fruit snacks.
Also, buy her some cute underwear that has her favorite cartoon on it.
When she sees it who knows, she might think OOHHH I WANT THOSE!!! And think I have to get this down so I can wear those.
But my major rule is that a kid should know how to pull up and down their own pants before they go on the potty at all.

Like they say you cant rush potty training them they will do it when there ready. Keep letting her sit on the potty even though she has already went. Every child is different my daughter is 2 and it took her 2 days to pee on the potty but were still not pooping on potty. I don’t know what things you have tryed but when my daughter was potty training I gave her stickers when she went on the potty.

    three weeks?
We struggled with potty training for almost a year. I’d say that she’s got it pretty good for two years old and only doing it for three weeks. Hang in there, be consistant and try not to yell or scold her too much for accidents, just explain everytime. The only thing that ended up working for me was regular underwear. She hated to be wet down her legs, and it eventually worked. Pooping took longer, but she got it eventually. She’s almost three now, and has been fully potty trained for about three months. She still wears diapers to bed though, but only at night. Not for naps.

my nieces did this we would always let them sit on the potty even after they had already used it (so cute they would look so confused like why doesnt this thing work) our method was a little messy we’d put underwear on them so when they used it in their underwear they were more aware of what was happening. Then we’d clean them up it took about a week and they stared to use the potty pretty regularly. 1 was trained by 21/2 years and 1 was trained by 2 years.
