Question by LifeIsGrand: Question for working parents and toilet training toddlers in daycare??
Do you feel that having your toddler attending daycare helped with toilet training or did it drag out the whole potty training longer then necessary? Did you and your daycare provider work well as a team potty training partners or was it a potty training disaster with the child confused as to what was expected of him/her?
lookingfor1227,
My son spent 4 months being pottytrained at daycare only. He definitely was sent to the bathroom at my house and then he would scream and run from the toilet. He would then wet his pants. He would NEVER act that way at daycare. He eventually gave up the power struggle and from my daycare provider’s perspective he had been potty trained for months. sigh. At her house, he was really well behaved. He would save any naughty behavior for me. My daycare provider helped big time.

Do you even have children of your own??? This type of “split reaction” is quite common. Not only do some toddlers behave better at daycare but it’s quite common for school age kids to be well behaved at school but have behavioral concerns at home. Maybe you should quit watching the “Lifetime” channel and get a liitle more in touch with real life issues.
BTW, my kids are teenagers now and they’re fine. I was just asking this question out of curiosity.

Most of the time the daycare has them on a time fram that they stop every so offten and have them all go to the bathroom and then if they need to go in between they can. The problem comes in when the parents pick them up and does not keep up with it and make them stop and remind them to go or have them go every so offten untill they are use to going on their own. The parents take them home and just let them go in their pants and change them and don’t try to get them to use the bathroom so then they thinkif they don’t have to at home htey shouldn’t have to at school either. If you work with them on the same lines as the daycare you should have no problems. It shouldn’t take long at all.

if your kid is acting that why when he goes to the bathroom, i would investigate….
it does not seem likely to me that he would have such an outburst with you, but nothing of the sort with his day care provider? I DOUBT IT!
it sounds to me like somthing (maybe abuse) is going on….it is not possible for him to have this split reaction….daycare provider is probably doing something and then to cover it up she is not sharing her observations of his apprehension to potty

Well, from the other end, my mom runs a daycare in our house, and the kids she’s potty-trained usually do pretty good. It helps that this last year, she’s had three girls, and one was already potty-trained, and the other two were training, so they would all go to the potty together. However, one of them would still have bad days and have numerous accidents, but they did pretty good. I don’t think it took them very long to do pretty good with it.
