Make it fun. Put Cherrios or Fruit Loops in the toilet and tell him to try to hit them. Or let him “water” the trees when outdoors. Those are the only things that worked with my son. And always make a really big deal out of it when he does good!

  2. al.chapman42 Says:

.when it comes time to potty train you need to make a game with him and make him think that he peeing on a bug or something just make it fun for him don’t get upset with it he will get it soon

Th eone thing that worked with my daughter is do not force them to use the potty, leave it lieng around for weeks and weeks in the front room so they can see it, get used to it, and make it there friend, a bit like the sofa, that way the fear goes away as its just sitting there hamrlessly a bit liek the sofa lol, i ALWAYS go to the toilet in front of my little girl, and when i need a wee i tell her im goin gto the toilet to go for a wee, she normailly follows me and stands with me, some people migh tfind this strange buti i think it helps a lot when potty training as that wasy they know there not the only ones who are going for a wee on a seat, my daughter after a while of watching me wanted to go for a wee on the toilet or potty becuase she saw me do it!
When they need a wee ask them if they want to use the potty, if they say no then thats fine, dont force them but once they’ve wee’d in the nappy then say to them did u wee in your nappy? they’ll slowly begin to pick up on the fact that there weeing in a nappy and your not, and they’ll want to wee on a seat too!
Also u can buy little balls thta go in the toilet for boys that u can aim there wee at, they have lil face’s on, this could make it more fun for boys, u can buy them on the pampers website, which im sure has a quiz to determine if your child is ready for potty training yet!
The average girl is dry at 2. but with boys its 3, often later!

you don’t mention how old he is; that usually makes a difference. closer to 3, you’ll have more success. especially in a boy. have him pick out his “big-boy” underwear; that could help motivate him. some of my neighbors have sworn by this: don’t put any pants (at all) on him for a weekend. there’s bound to be a mess or two, but they all claim that it took 1-2 days.
my daughter decided 3 months before her 3rd bday that she was ready, and that was that.

  5. Nina Says:

When he shows interest, throw away all of the diapers and pull-ups and give him big boy underwear.
We started at age 2 with my son (b/c he was interested) and used pull ups for 6 months. One day we threw them away and that was all it took for him. 1-2 days of accidents later…. no more & 100% potty trained.

  6. mommyjo2 Says:

Shameless bribery works for me – if the child is ready.
I use a Pez dispenser in their fave character (I can keep it in my pocket, my kids would sneak around and eat all the candy otherwise).

One pez for #1, 2 pez for #2.

Always be positive, and don’t punish for accidents – just matter of factly have them help you clean it up. Every child is different and has their own time table, too.

Also, in my experience (currently potty training child #6), Pullups are a waste of money and make the training take a lot longer.

Age??? My son will be 3 in two weeks, and after trying for the third time this year, he finally got it last week. This last time, we were at it for over a month: going every 2-3 hours, rewards, partying when he made it. Still…he just didn’t want to go in the potty. He would do everything BUT go in the potty. He’d tell me when he needed to go, but then he’d sit there and look at me. He’d pee/poop in his pants, and then try to hide it from me. I’m a single mom, and so it was difficult to do it by myself. My father suggested making him stand in the corner as a “punishment” while I cleaned up his mess, and then also take away his toys/movies/blanket (whatever it was that he was playing/watching when he peed/pooped in his pants). If I would have heard this when I first started training, I would have been appalled, but after a month of pee and poop and sheer frustration, following my father’s advice actually paid off. I had already taken away my son’s movies and his Diego doll; but what worked was taking away his crayons and markers. The day I took those away was the day he finally went to the bathroom. Now, knock on wood, we’ve been accident-free for over a week; and I’m so incredibly happy. He’s even started wearing ONLY underwear, no plastic pants! Yeah!! Hang in there!

  8. Cruz and Kinsley's momma Says:

I am potty training my 22 month old son right now as well and the only advice I can give to you is: Don’t let him see your frustration. I put my son on his potty and if he doesn’t go within 2 or three minutes, we quit and try again in 30 min until he finally goes and when he does go…make a HUGE deal. I show my son how excited I am that he is going pee pee like a big boy and then he puts a sticker on his pee pee chart in the bathroom (which he loves) and he gets some m&m’s just stick with it. There is nothing easy about it!

  9. La Loo La Says:

It really helped my son to potty train standing up because he could see what pushing worked and could keep trying if he did not pee yet. Plus, standing to pee was fun for him and got him involved in trying. I researched on amazon and found a safe stool with sides for the toilet so he could stand at the toilet on his own. http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Child-Corporation-TPS-100-Potty/dp/B000MZKTU4
He just loved it. This stool was well worth it and worked great for my daughter too.
    Hope this helps.
