Question by AllieH: How can I potty train a dog that is impossible to potty train!?!?!?
I got a Pomeranian about 3-4 months ago. He is about 7-8 months old and is impossible to train. Me, my roommate and both of our mothers have tried with this dog and we cant do it! I even took advise someone gave me at a pet store, I was not to let the dog off the leash even in the apartment, and when I cant keep him with me keep him in his cage. I will feed him and take him out and he just stares at me so I put him in his cage while I get ready and about 20 min later I take him out and again….he stares so as soon as we get in he poops all over the place. I just dont know what to do anymore. Is there anywhere that I can drop him off to get like potty training boot camp or something?

You have to get wee wee pads and when he pees on the floor you shove his nose in it and spank em and put them on the wee wee pad.

Or for outside. You get something like a cloth and get there urine smell an rub it on stuff out side so when the dog smells it, it will pee over in that spot.

and you have to clean the pee spots in the house very well or the dog will keep peeing in those spots..

There are some really good books on house breaking. There are a few methods, including crate training, the umbilical method ( with the leash), and always use positive reinforcement.

Don’t put his face in his elimination! He will become afraid of you, and will probably think you are crazy. No dog is absolutely unable to be house trained. Some, especially toy breeds, can be stubborn, but who is the human here?

You may have to give in a bit to start using the pads, to at least get him using something. But he is also old enough to go to a training class. They might be able to help you too.

    Good luck, and be tough!

Ok. It’s complicated, but try my method out for 30 days and if it doesn’t work then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s not just a matter of when he is done eating. It’s all about consistency. After he is done eating, take her out until she goes. I know it may seem inconvenient, but it has to be done. After wards you should reward with a “GOOD GIRL/BOY,” in a friendly and high pitched voice. This will tell her she has done a good job. You don’t want to spoil her with treats. Those are for tricks. Also, if you are using puppy pads in the house, bring them out with you and lay them down. This is letting her know that, that is the appropriate place to potty. Do not use them in the house anymore. what ever you do stay very consistent, and most important you have to win the battle of endurance, stay outside with her as long as it takes until she potties. If all else fails PetSmart is a good place for a potty training boot camp. Try this method out first though. Good Luck!!!

what we did with our german shorthair pointer is we got a crate/cage that she would take up about 2/3 the space inside it. that wat she wouldn’t be able to pee in it. we kept her in it at night, and during the day we kept her in the backyard…

    oh, u live in an apartment… right…
